Targeting your forms to a popup

It's a commonly requested piece of functionality, and surprisingly easy to achieve if you know what you're doing. The key to it lies in the window object's .open() method, and the form object's onsubmit() event. It's really very simple.

window.open(url, name, features)

Note the middle parameter. Name. That's the 'HTML' name of the window you'll be opening. In other words, it's what you'd put in the <form> tag's target attribute.

Now all you need to do is open the window. here's my sample code

So when you submit the form, first, the javascript function 'popIt()' is called. this opens the new window, then returns true, allowing the form to submit. it'll head straight for your new window, because you targeted it there.
